Hello and welcome to Speedwell Sound Therapy.
Hi,I am Angela Durkan, a qualified Psychotherapist, Professional Sound Therapist, Gong Bath, Sound Bath practitioner, Reiki Master and Cacao Ceremonist.
I have been on a journey of self discovery for over 30 years which has involved various meditation practices, Law of Attraction, Quantum healing and experimenting with a variety of exercises to create balance in the body such as Yoga, Tai Chi, Kundalini , Dance, and Sound amongst many others.
I worked for the past 30 years in Law Enforcement and in particular child protection, this led me to understand how trauma is absorbed into the body and how ill health can manifest as a result.
In 2008 I qualified as a Counsellor/ Psychotherapist after studying with Glyndwr University, Llandrillo College and Bangor University in a part time five year post graduate course accredited by BACP.
However in 2012, and as a result of juggling too much, I suffered burnout both physically and mentally. I was a shadow of my former self.
I then found sound as a holistic therapy and this changed my life. I didn’t just get well by using sound it was one of a collective of things I did, the right food, the right exercise, the right people around me, determination to get well, and a lot of investigation into my illness and the science behind sound to help me get back to who I am today.
I have since trained with the British Academy of Sound therapists (BAST) over the years and reached Higher level diplomas in Sound and Movement therapy and group Sound therapy. Lyz Cooper my trainer is a pioneer leading the way to have Sound Therapy standardised to safe levels.
It is intense and thorough training and all techniques are tried and tested as to their affects on the body. I feel now that by merging both modalities of Therapy and Sound it has given me a new found passion to take forward as a Professional career.
My mission is to offer Sound Therapy into as many places as I can.
I lived the journey to recovery through sound and so I truly believe what I do helps people in so many ways.
I am a member of the International Therapeutic Sound Academy which sets out a Code of Practice and best practice that I work to.
